FISHING

Tell me sumptin….. You ever known anybody with just an absolute cornucopic plethera of knowledge and information of anything? Good or bad, annoying as hell, or just a good ole boy who's fun to be around. Well, I've known several of all the above and one thing I've learned it's not who you get the information from but how valuable it becomes to you when you use it. I kinda relate it to either counting cards or knowing how many spots are on the table before you slap that next domino down and do the icky shuffle on your way to bone victory! I bought my first 2 man bass hunter boat when i was 16. I use to spend the night in the back of my 74' ford 7 shades of green pick up at the northern boat ramps of Lake Lavon. I'd let the sun wake me up in the morning, fire up the hi tech trolling motor with all 4 speeds and cruise all of a couple hundred yards out in the trees and fish for anything that ended in bass. Black bass, white bass, spotted bass or smallmouth bass. So I learned early what to fish with, how to fish it, how shallow or how deep. I graduated to bigger boats and more sophisticated toys and have passed on knowledge and experience to friends, family, and whoever else would listen to my advice or stories. What classifies as good advice? Your pals that take the same baits you use and send you pics on your phone of fish that are bigger than anything I've ever set a hook on. What makes a good story? The fact that mine get 10 minutes longer every time I tell it, or, how I could measure the fish every time it jumped out the water to perfect size and spit my bait back at me as I hear that tungston weight go wizzin by my ear from not setting that worm hook like I was supposed to. SO! Story or advice? Hey….. Even I've won a club tournament or two, who hasn't? But there are still folks out there that need a little help on the basics when they put the boat on the big pond. Most lakes, I said most lakes….. are the same when it comes to time n temperature, day or night, hot or cold. And yep! I have my personal favorites for puttin'm in the livewell. I'm in Texas but weather will vary from state to state. There's not a single one of these baits that haven't been proven to at least make ya reach for the net. I ain't sure how I'm gunna keep up with it yet, but! I will have a section or gallery for braggin rights. SO!!! #1 On the Plastic baits section and just about impossible to beat, the SENKO WORM by Gary Yamamoto. You can't beat green pumpkin or green pumpkin with red flakes. Apply the right action n you'll put'm in the boat! Texas or Carolina rigged, or my favorite, rig it wacky style!

Leaders from the gallery on the crankbait side of the tackle box, and i back these having made several checks from the tournament trail.... It's a split decision with 2 favs depending on spring or summer. In the spring, the BILL LEWIS RED RATTLE TRAP, pick your size. The other, a no brainer, the LUCKY CRAFT SQUARE BILL, I like the 1.5 white color. I usually keep 2 sizes tied on always!

TOPS on the list for everybody's favorite casting bait. As long as your casting chartreuse or white in the daylight or black in the dark, even if you stick with 3/8 or 1/2 double willow blades for most trips, there are 2 that are effective and not too hard on the wallet. The STRIKE KING FINESSE COMPACT and the BERKLEY POWER BLADE. When it comes to flash and action they perform!

I've got two more i'd like to mention n then i'm gunna let yall getcha bait wet. They take a little more skill and patience, and are for a little more for the advanced anglers. But they have produced the biggest fish i personally have ever went to the weigh in table with. If your interested, ok, if not, no harm no foul. JIGS n FROGS....... They produce absolute beasts! Tie these on n see!!!
